What does true love feel like?
It was early in the morning but my heart was already heavy. I walked downstairs, grabbed my Bible and opened the sliding door. My little table, covered by my Mother’s Day umbrella, has been a safe place for me.
As I sat back in my chair and close my eyes, I started to pray. Without a beat I started to lay out my request. Request that came from fear of the unknown. Request about my own personal situation. In that moment, it was almost like God whispered into my ear. “Daughter, don’t worry about your request and situation. Today, focus on my love for you.”
It must have been him, because a peace automatically came over my soul. In that moment, I let all request go and I started to think of how great his love is for me.
The sad thing is, I’ve heard it all my life. In fact, just about the only Bible verse I could remember as a child was, John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Where’s the disconnect? Why is it so hard for us to believe that God truly does love us?
We know our sin.
We know our faults and failures.
We judge ourselves even when we ask for forgiveness.
At least that’s what my heart is telling me. Can you relate to any of this?
Here’s the truth
After soaking in what it feels like to be loved unconditionally, I opened up my bible.
“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:26-34 NLT
Today I was reminded not to worry and not to question my worth.
What does true love feel like?
It feels like excepting that a Savior died on a cross for you. It feels like an assurance in knowing that if God is for you, then who can be against you. It feels like peace, even when things in this world seem to be falling apart. It feels like hope in your future because he will never leave you. It feels like a promise of heaven that won’t be broken!
So today friend, Incase you feel like you have to perform in order to be loved. Maybe you feel like a love you had relied on is lost. Or you question if love will ever come. It already has.
“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NLT
Thank you for your love. Help us fully except it and feel it like never before.
